AK Rikk’s is a contemporary fashion destination with an unrivaled shopping experience that specializes in luxury men’s and women’s fashion from around the world. From over a hundred designer brands that include Valentino, Brunello Cucinelli, The Row, AK Rikk’s has one of the most exclusive curated collections within the Midwest that demonstrates the quality and connection with their customers AK Rikk’s pride themselves in serving.

This year, the retailer wanted to showcase their most popular collections and upcoming events in a new way. With the intention, to captivate customers, they partnered with us to debut the Nostaboard in their front window display.

AK Rikk’s Nostaboard showcases an analog version of their store events and most popular brands like Nanuska, Stone Island, and Tom Ford that encouraged customers to shop the products displayed. Additionally, the display promoted customers to participate in trunk shows and sale events that season. The display gave AK Rikk’s the capability of highlighting those top shoppable brands and events in a more compelling way.

Split flap display is a digital electromechanical display device that presents changeable alphanumeric text, and occasionally fixed graphics. Often used as a public transport timetable in airports or railway stations, as such they are often called Nostaobard from Xibitz. Split-flap displays were once commonly used in consumer digital clocks known as flip clocks.

Chicago Cubs Nostaboard

During the 2016 regular season, the Chicago Cubs pursued a suitable experience in their new office tower next to Wrigley Field. As the oldest team in professional baseball, the Cubs felt they had a great story to tell within their new space. Coincidently, sports architecture and design firm Populous presented their final designs to the Cubs the same week as the World Series and “HOLY COW, CUBS WIN!!” So back to the drawing board to develop a much more amazing story to celebrate—and a much more condensed time frame to create it in.

Populous, the Cubs, and Xibitz quickly brought the concept designs to life through high-quality fabrication and installation. Xibitz built everything from the World Series Trophy display to a 3,475-piece split-flap rotating image display that energizes the entry. We are proud to have been a part of this always-believed-in Chicago celebration!

As a part of this project, Xibitz’ Engineering department developed and installed a one-of-a-kind Nostaboard to greet visitors into the space. The Nostaboard showcases 10 images featuring Wrigley Field and the history of the Chicago Cub’s franchise.

Cincinnati Children’s Research Foundation

Tracing its roots to 1884, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center has been dedicated to improving the health and well-being of children throughout the world. The Medical Center’s newest research tower, known as the “S Building,” features 415,000 square feet of modern basic and clinical research lab space, specifically designed to promote collaboration across disciplines and encourage interaction among basic, translational and clinical investigators.

To showcase the center’s legacy of innovation and latest breakthroughs, its leaders called on a collaborative effort between Kolar Design, Perspectives 360, and Xibitz. The team identified and executed the project’s goals through dynamic sculptures, rich colors, and several hundred feet of plasma monitors that help communicate the center’s vision, engage dialogue and celebrate discovery, while inspiring those who work to improve children’s lives now and for generations to come.

Helen Devos Children’s Hospital

A hospital’s work is serious business – and that can make it especially scary for a child. With this in mind, the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital provides a warm and welcoming environment, with special amenities for families while offering high-quality care in a state-of-the-art facility.

Xibitz was selected to create branded displays for the children’s hospital to recognize the gifts of over 6,000 donors and provide nontraditional location signage. The intentional design and meticulous choices of materials allow for a layering effect that accentuates detail and flow while complementing the building’s overall architectural aesthetic. The result balances playfulness and elegance, using colors and shapes to connect patients, family members, and visitors with the facility in comforting ways. Sounds like good medicine.

Seattle Children’s Hospital

Consistently ranked as one of the top children’s hospitals in the world, Seattle Children’s Hospital provides outpatient and inpatient treatment to children throughout the northwest United States. Their dedication to transforming children’s health comes at a cost, and could not be achieved without the generous donations from the community. When Seattle Children’s Hospital decided to create an engaging and distinctive donor wall in their Emergency Department they approached Xibitz.

The hospital’s donors believe that change is the result of stepwise progress, of attacking a series of challenges with a goal in mind and a mission in your heart. When we change the world for one child, we change the whole world, one donation at a time. It was this mindset that inspired a pebbled donor wall. Each pebble and stone, when combined, can create a path forward. Xibitz designed and manufactured hundreds of rocks to display donor names, as well as the undulating wall on which they are mounted. Integrated lighting illuminates the wall and mimics a flowing river. These elements create a sense of impact and they reinforce the collective sentiment of the village of donors and their passion for the community.

Akron Children’s Hospital

From humble beginnings as a day nursery in 1890, Akron Children’s Hospital has evolved into the largest pediatric healthcare system in northeast Ohio, operating two hospitals, 22 offices, and approximately 70 specialty locations across the region – together drawing more than 650,000 patient visits each year.

A $200 million expansion of its Akron campus incorporates a theme of “things familiar” – in particular what a child would find in his or her back yard. Features include a “Blue Wall” spanning an open two-story space. Symbolizing a backyard fence, it is also visible from outside the building and incorporates a series of mounted wood veneer panels. Custom animated interactive elements are activated by motion sensors in some niches supplemented by static backlit images in others. Abstract Tree Sculptures are another feature provided by Xibitz. They stretch from floor to ceiling and are textured to enhance their resemblance to trees. Xibitz also executed the production, engineering, and installation of a chandelier representing a canopy of leaves. It utilizes panels of colored glass suspended at different heights that (move) with air movement.

OH WOW

Children’s Center for Science & Technology and the House of Shine, from Dallas, to create exciting, colorful, interactive exhibits for children of all ages who visit the center in Youngstown, OH. We worked closely together, collaborating each step of the way, and the end result is an engaging and inspiring venue. There are activities that ask the participant questions about;

Burpee Museum of Natural History

Homer’s Odyssey: From the Badlands to Burpee

Beirut, Lebanon

From the discovery and excavation of the first bones in Montana to the preparation and reconstruction of the fossils in the lab, the new Homer’s Odyssey exhibit at the Burpee Museum of Natural History in Rockford, Illinois is the product of eight years of work. Since this was the first Triceratops bone bed ever found, the Museum had the opportunity to create an exciting exhibition that sheds light on this hot topic within the scientific community.

Xibitz, along with content developer, Dan Bartlett, was entrusted to develop the permanent exhibit to meet the museum’s objectives of being fun, as well as educational, and scientifically accurate. Xibitz created content that gives visitors glimpses into the biology and ecology of Homer’s day, over 66 million years ago, including a dynamic mount of the Triceratops Homer, a mural depicting life in the Cretaceous period by Paleo artist Michael Skrepnick, and thirteen skulls that demonstrate interspecies evolutionary relationships and species growth from baby to adult.

With the tremendous visual appeal, “Homer’s Odyssey” meets the museum’s goals of providing visitors of multiple age groups and varied learning styles opportunities for hands-on/ minds-on activities including tactile fossil samples and interactive flipbooks.

Kohl Children’s Museum

Science + You – International Travelling Exhibit

Imagine a small-scale laboratory where children can dive into science by helping clear the bloodstream of germs; solve problems using a glove box, beakers, and test tubes; manipulate machines to mix and separate substances; investigate objects using microscopes; create a healthy soup in a test kitchen, and share their discoveries with others. The venue is Science + You, a traveling exhibit.

This international traveling exhibit features 11 interactive elements in which children can explore machines, processes, and technology that demonstrate the role science plays in keeping them healthy. Children experience procedures similar to those of a real-life laboratory and walk through a pretend shower to be bathed in blue lights before putting on a white Abbott lab coat.

Xibitz worked with Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago, scientists at Abbott Labs, and Kraemer Design + Production to create this unique environment. This traveling children’s exhibit stimulates interest in the role scientists play in the health and wellness of people all over the world.

Underwritten by the Abbott Fund, the exhibit opened at the Kohl in Glenview, Illinois, and has traveled to San Francisco; Washington D.C.; Mannheim, Germany; and São Paulo, Brazi

State Historical Society of North Dakota

North Dakota Heritage Center

The North Dakota Heritage Center underwent a significant expansion project, nearly doubling its exhibition gallery space. This project allowed the Museum to expand upon the history of North Dakota and its people across time and place, from the time when dinosaurs ruled through the development of today’s emerging industries.

Great Plains Exhibit Development Joint Venture, comprised of Xibitz, Lord Cultural Resources and Taylor Studios worked collaboratively with stakeholders from the Museum, architect, and the public to create exhibits in three new galleries totaling 33,000 square feet.

Public engagement was a cornerstone of the development process as our team traveled to all corners of the state engaging the public in focus sessions seeking input on what stories should be told and how they should be presented. The resulting designs include a mix of traditional and contemporary exhibit techniques, including recreated environments, interactive media, and hands-on exhibits that respond to varied learning styles and audience needs.
